The Alexander the Great Marathon, the largest sporting celebration in Northern Greece, is preparing to celebrate the twentieth anniversary since its creation in the most impressive way. Since 2006, it has offered unique emotions to hundreds of thousands of runners!

The anniversary 20th Alexander the Great Marathon – bwin, on Sunday, April 26, 2026, is expected to inspire excitement once again, as the Organizing Committee is working to provide all participants with excellent race support, backed by its twenty years of experience and further strengthening the competitive sector, runner and route safety, as well as the musical support points along the course.

All of the above will be complemented by excellent refreshment and medical support services, areas in which the Alexander the Great Marathon has earned major recognition, most notably ranking 8th in the world in the overall evaluation among certified marathons, as well as 4th best in the safety sector, according to the independent research of “THE SOLE SUPPLIER” (http://bit.ly/TopMarathons). This distinction was published, among others, on the reputable and globally recognized website “FORBES” (http://bit.ly/ATGM-Forbes), showcasing Central Macedonia and our country worldwide.

The celebration will be complemented by rich parallel events for the whole family, creating a multifaceted experience that will remain unforgettable for runners and visitors alike.

This year, the interest from runners, both from Greece and abroad, is surpassing all previous records, with the number of registrations so far being more than double compared to the respective figures of previous years at the same point in time.

The deadline for completing group registrations is Friday, March 27, 2026, while the deadline for individual registrations is Wednesday, April 1, 2026.

The schedule of the anniversary 20th Alexander the Great Marathon – bwin is as follows:

07:30: Marathon start from the statue of Alexander the Great in Pella Square.

08:30: Start of the 1,000 m race for primary school students from Aristotelous Square.

08:30: Start of the 10,000 m Health Run and Dynamic Walking race from the Ampelokipoi Municipal Stadium.

12:30: Start of the 5,000 m Health Run and Dynamic Walking race from Thessaloniki City Hall.

The finish line for all races of the competition program will be at the level of the square with the statue of Alexander the Great, on the Thessaloniki waterfront.

The International Alexander the Great Marathon is a regular member of the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS). It follows the regulations of SEGAS (Hellenic Athletics Federation) for the organization and conduct of championships and competitions, under whose approval it is held, and it is conducted in accordance with the rules of World Athletics on officially certified race courses. It is organized by MEAS TRITON in institutional cooperation with the Region of Central Macedonia, under whose auspices it takes place. It is also held under the auspices of the Hellenic National Commission for UNESCO, the Ministry of Interior (Macedonia–Thrace), the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports – General Secretariat of Sports, the Ministry of Tourism – Greek National Tourism Organization, the Ministry of National Defence, and the Hellenic Olympic Committee.
